About the Department of English:

A milestone has been created by establishing the Department of English Language and Literature, under The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, by The University of Scholars, one of Bangladesh's most prominent private universities. We are not only offering courses of B.A. (Hons) in English Language, Literature, and ELT, and it is our promise to the students that when they pass our university, they will be adequate confident to face the world like a warrior and achieve all the expected goals of their lives. The students of B.A. (Hons) in English language and literature will learn to use the language in a scholarly and practical way to show their efficiency.

Course Purpose and Goals:

It is an undeniable fact that the world of today depends on mostly one language, which is English, and if you ask the value of English Literature; it's vast; most importantly, literature will teach you about your surroundings and also teaches you human psychology to understand people more and more quickly and clearly in every step of your life. So it is vital to learn the language to be intelligent enough among others and make yourself an exclusive person with an attractive personality. We are ensuring highly qualified teachers with a disciplined and friendly academic environment to make the students comfortable manifesting their creativity.  To make our students mentally, ethically, and morally strong, the University of Scholars is offering B.A. (Hons) program in English Language and Literature, Applied Linguistics, and ELT. This course is a full-time day program with 12 regular semesters. Students will have to cope-up with 40 systems, including five core courses and 120 credits; a thesis of 4 credits; and viva voce examinations of 3 credits- altogether, it requires 127 credits to complete according to UGC-approved curriculum during their four years of studies.

Admission requirements for B.A (Hons) in English Program:

• GPA of at least 2.50 or 2nd Division in both SSC and HSC or equivalent examinations; or
• GPA of at least 2.00 either in the SSC or HSC examination, but the total GPA in both the studies combined must be at least 6.00;

                                                                          or

• Suppose the student has English medium background, O Level with at least five subjects, and an A Level with at least two subjects. In these two examinations, out of 7 subjects, a student must have passed four subjects with at least a B or GPA of 4.00 and in 3 subjects with at least a C grade or a GPA of 3.5.
• Students can bear North American High School Diploma, International Baccalaureate, or equivalent to get admission here.
• In the case of sons/daughters of Freedom Fighters, a total GPA of at least 5.00 in both SSC and HSC Examinations is required. But the official proof of the Father /Mother as a Freedom Fighter has to be submitted.

Admission Procedure to get admitted into B.A (Hons) in English Program:

Interested students must collect the form and prospectus from our admission office/ reception desk. After gathering all the necessary documents, the applicants are welcome to deposit the admission fees and sign the application form to finish the admission process.

The following documents are needed to get admission:

• Two passport-sized color photographs (studio lab print with white background for the I.D. card purpose)
• Photocopies (one copy each) :
• Certificates and mark sheets of SSC/O-Level, HSC/A-Level, or other equivalent examinations.
• SSC/O-Level registration card.
• Birth certificate of the candidate.
• National ID card of the candidate.
• Original certificates, mark sheets/transcripts, SSC/O-Level registration cards, and birth certificate /national I.D. cards must be summoned for verification by the officer of the University of Scholars at the time of admission.
